On June 17, 2016, I officially graduated from Nova Southeastern University. With tears in my eyes and heart filled with joy, I humbly walked across the stage to shake the hands of Nova Southeastern University’s officials. I completed my degree requirements in October 2015, but I had to wait to publicly announce. For months, I was so anxious to share with the world.
See my graduation was super major to to me because I loss my father at an early age and his last dying wish was for me to get an education because he did not earn an education due to his life choices.
Not many people knew that I had reading and math deficits in elementary school. Although my mom kept books in front of me, I struggled with reading. My 3rd grade math teacher, “Mrs. B” told me that I was dumber than a bag of bricks and she moved me to the back of the room because I couldn’t recite my multiplication facts. Yes, it hurt for me to hear that, but those bricks she compared to had a purpose. Yep! I used them to create a foundational fuel to work harder in middle and high school. As a result, I over a half million dollars in scholarships. I even focused and finished undergrad in 3 years.
Now I stand before you with 4 degrees under God’s grace. This road was not easy. Rejection; failed relationships; & loss all played a major role in my development. God knew what He was doing when He chose me. Now you can compare me to brick any day because I don’t mind. Bricks are made to withstand high temperature. So no devil in hell can take what God has prepared for me. I will continue to love and serve.
